Do you know how to care for your wooden cutting boards? Oiling cutting boards is one of the best things you can do to maintain the health of your kitchen equipment. It seals off pores where bacteria can grow, and it also looks nice! This blog will give you instructions and information about oiling cutting boards.
When you take care of your board in this way, you will fend off odors from the bacteria that will get into the pores. You reduce stains and create a much better look, with a rich shine. The grain in the wood is taken care of as well.
You can oil your boards every couple of weeks, shorter or longer durations if you find that you need more or less, of course. This will vary if you wash them frequently or use them frequently, too. You can use a variety of natural oils that will help to keep the board free from chemicals, and they often smell nice, too! You can find mineral oil, for example, for cheap at most grocery stores. Simply get your oil and a clean rag and you’ll be good to go. Make sure you don’t use cooking oil, however, because they can become rotten or rancid, and that of course will defeat your purpose for oiling in the first place!
So, what you do is simply add some of the oil to your rag and rub it into the wood of the board in a nice circular pattern. Do this once all over the board and let it dry. Then do a second coat. Keep repeating the process of oiling and drying until the board doesn’t absorb the oil any more.
